Install Protection is a Raydium Framework Safeguard Against Website Takeovers.

Install protection within the Raydium Framework is a critical security measure designed to prevent unauthorized website takeovers. This feature ensures that access to the WordPress installation and update mechanisms is strictly controlled, preventing unauthorized users from re-installing WordPress with their own credentials and thus taking over the site. This documentation details the implementation and significance of install protection to thwart such security breaches.

Implementing Install Protection ​

Activate Install Protection:

  • Define the RAYDIUM_INSTALL_PROTECTION constant in the framework configuration file (configs/config.php) to enable install protection. Setting this constant to true enforces the protection mechanism.

IMPORTANT

WordPress database upgrades may require you to disable this flag, if you find that you cant access the admin area then it may be that a database upgrade is needed usually this happens after major WordPress updates, in that case simply set the flag to false run the database upgrades and re-enable it.

Protection Logic:

  • The Raydium Framework will check for the RAYDIUM_INSTALL_PROTECTION flag. If the flag is enabled, the framework will try to block any new installation attempts that could lead to unauthorized control of the site.

Protection Enforcement:

  • If the Raydium detects an unauthorized installation attempt while install protection is active, it will initiate appropriate actions to stop the process. This may involve redirecting the user to a custom error page, recording the attempt for analysis, or notifying the site administrators.
